The coin watch is a unique and intriguing part of watchmaking history. It started as a way for brands to show off their skills by fitting a movement into the slim space of a coin, often by combining two coins for enough material. Everything changed in 1957 at the Basel fair when Piaget introduced its 9P movement in a coin watch. This design cleverly used a single coin, cut in half and hollowed out, with a sprung cover that revealed the dial at the push of a button. The coin watch beautifully marries creativity and craftsmanship.
