Rolex retired the 4-digit models vintage Daytona with hand-wound Valjoux movement and plexi crystals in 1988 and upgraded them with the new iconic Zenith-based caliber 4030 movement as their first 5-digit series models. As Rolex’s first automatic chronograph with a larger 40mm case size and fitted with sapphire glass, this present example features one of the most highly collectible Zenith Daytona dials; the “Floating Cosmograph” dial. These dials were only produced for approximately one year with R and L series. The notable characteristics of these dials the word “Cosmograph” was printed separately from the preceding four lines of text on the dial. Another significant feature it is fitted with an original early bezel calibrated to 200 units.
