Created by Louis Cartier in 1917 and inspired by the very first Renault tanks deployed in 1917 during World War I. Legend has it that the first examples of the Tank Watch were offered by Cartier to General John Pershing of the American Expeditionary Force and certain of his officers.

A variant of the original Tank wristwatch, featuring jumping hours at the upper portion of the dial, the watch also displayed a minutes indicator at 6 o’clock. Its name derives from the apertures, which “jump” as the time advances. “Jump Hour” wristwatches were particularly popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Today, these wristwatches are incredibly evocative of the Deco period. Rarely seen one with the bracelet.
